Caroling at the Candlelight Stroll

Arts in Reach joined in the holiday spirit last week with a caroling performance at Strawbery Banke’s 40th annual Candlelight Stroll. Roxanne O’Conner was back to lead our diverse troupe of singers which included AIR teens, alumnae, parents, a board member, and staff! We captivated visitors with two acapella performances in the hemlock groves of the Thomas Bailey Aldrich Memorial Garden.

Our setlist included carols ranging from traditional to contemporary. Spectators were delighted and amused by our inclusion of the alternate lyrics of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” When it came time for the interjection after “he’ll go down in history,” each of our singers shouted out their favorite historical figures in unison. Answers ranged from Susan B. Anthony to Alexander Hamilton!

This year we introduced a new song, “Carol of the Bells.” It was quite challenging, but thanks to Roxanne, we were able to master our parts in time for the performance. We closed our sets not with a carol, but an AIR favorite: the spiritual, “Wade in the Water!” Our audience was encouraged to sing it along with us.

We are so grateful to Strawbery Banke for inviting us back, and everyone who came out to watch us perform! This event was a truly wonderful way to close the year.

“Please bring us some figgy pudding!”
