“Be whoever you want to be, and the people who really matter will love you for all that you are.”
Shannon is our new Business Development AmeriCorps VISTA, her main role is working with our Executive Director to retain and expand funding for our programs. She can often be found in our AIR office doing many different things; organizing and promoting fundraising events, recruiting volunteers, maintaining our donor database, sending out newsletters, and updating our website and social media platforms. We are so grateful to have Shannon on our staff for the next year!
When asked why Shannon wanted to work for AIR she said, “I was immediately drawn to the unique mission of AIR. I think that healthy forms of self-expression and a sense of community/belonging are so important for any girl going through adolescence—especially in this hypercritical era of social media. I am excited to be part of an organization that empowers young women to be unapologetically themselves.”
Arts In Reach isn’t the beginning of Shannon’s art journey. She has taken many classes in a variety of art techniques, but she said her favorite art form is drawing and painting. If you get the chance to spend some creative time with Shannon be sure to ask her about her human portrait series, she has drawn almost one hundred portraits for this series!
“You will definitely make lots of mistakes— forgive yourself and try again!”
