This week is Fashion Revolution Week, the Fashion Revolution is a global movement calling for greater transparency, sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry. The AIR teens of the 2018 Performance Intensive Program are taking part in this revolution and working this week to create a show that is based on the stories of garment works throughout history. The teens are learning about where their clothes are coming from, how they are really made, and who made them.
Take the time to do this visualization exercise that the teens just did. If you can, kneel on the ground with your arms stretched out..
Imagine you started working in this factory at age 11.
The air around you is as hot as the hottest day of the summer.
The air is dusty and makes it hard to breathe.
You work 12 hour days with 1 break.
That one break is the only chance you have to use the bathroom.
You work 6 days a week.
There is sweat dripping down your back.
You need to make 90 t-shirts an hour.
1,080 t-shirts a day.
25,920 t-shirts a month.
The noise in the factory consists of loud bangs, machines buzzing, and gears squeaking
The industry will profit $233,280 from your months t-shirts.
You made $50.
